Gurugram: In view of the New Year’s Eve celebrations, authorities in Gurugram are considering closing MG Road to vehicular traffic. The stretch, known for its numerous pubs and bars, attracts large crowds from across the NCR region, often leading to heavy traffic congestion and occasional chaos. In the past, the road has been closed to vehicles on December 31, and similar measures may be implemented this year. The final decision is expected to be made in a police-administration meeting scheduled for Monday.
Parking at Leisure Valley Ground
MG Road houses over 50 pubs and bars, and the police have previously conducted road closures from both ends – one towards Faridabad Road and the other towards IFFCO Chowk. For convenience, parking will be available at the nearby Leisure Valley Ground, approximately 200 meters from MG Road. In past years, traffic jams were reported on MG Road and near Ambience Mall during Christmas and New Year’s Eve. This year, the authorities are preparing a detailed plan to ensure smooth traffic flow. Only the service roads will remain open for residents of nearby societies. DCP Traffic Rajesh Mohan stated that a final plan for MG Road’s closure on New Year’s Eve will be finalized in the upcoming meeting.
Traffic Signal Trial at Shankar Chowk
In another development, a traffic signal trial has been initiated at Shankar Chowk on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway to aid pedestrians. The signal is intended for traffic coming from IFFCO Chowk towards Shankar Chowk, aiming to provide safer crossing for thousands of people who currently risk navigating through moving vehicles.
