Ghaziabad: Daily commuters on the Delhi–Meerut Expressway (DME) and those travelling towards ABES College or Crossings Republik should take note— the exit point on NH-9 near Sain Vihar has been closed for the next six months. The move aims to curb the persistent traffic jams in the area by widening the road and constructing an additional lane.
Exit Point Shut to Address Chronic Traffic Congestion
Until now, this exit was closed only during evening peak hours for about three hours. However, starting Saturday, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to permanently shut it for six months to facilitate construction work.
The exit near ABES/Crossings Republik had become a major bottleneck, with a large volume of vehicles trying to exit the expressway through this narrow cut. This caused long queues on the main expressway, leading to severe congestion daily.
Road Widening Work Begins
To resolve this issue, NHAI has initiated road-widening work at the spot. Once the expansion is complete and an additional lane is constructed, smoother and faster traffic flow is expected. Officials estimate that the project will take approximately six months to complete.
What Commuters Need to Do
Until the construction work is completed:
- Commuters heading towards ABES College or Crossings Republik should use alternative exits.
- Avoid attempting to exit through the closed point, as the route will remain inaccessible throughout the construction period.
The temporary inconvenience is expected to provide long-term relief, significantly reducing traffic congestion on NH-9 and the Delhi–Meerut Expressway.
