No Plan to Replace Gautam Gambhir as India’s Test Coach, BCCI Clarifies

New Delhi: Indian cricket has been abuzz with speculation about the future of Test team head coach Gautam Gambhir following the team’s recent struggles. Amid reports suggesting that Gambhir might be replaced, possibly by VVS Laxman, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has firmly denied any such plans.

BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla clarified in a statement to ANI, “I want to put to rest all rumors regarding Coach Gautam Gambhir. The BCCI has no plans to remove him or appoint a new coach in his place.”

BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia also dismissed the speculation as baseless, stating, “This news is completely false and speculative. Some major news agencies have circulated it, but there is no truth to it. The BCCI strongly denies these claims. People may speculate, but there is no factual basis to this report.”

India’s Test Team Faces Challenges

While India has performed well in T20 and ODI formats, the Test team has struggled recently. In the latest home series against South Africa, India lost both matches convincingly. Earlier, under Gambhir’s coaching, the team suffered a 3-0 defeat against New Zealand at home and a 3-1 loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.

Despite these setbacks, BCCI remains confident in Gambhir’s leadership, emphasizing stability and continuity as key to strengthening India’s Test cricket in the long term.
