Weather Update: December 17, 2025 – Heavy Rain Alert in 5 States, Dense Fog Warning in 18 Cities

On December 17, 2025, India experiences a sharp winter chill along with foggy conditions across several states. While the plains witness a cold wave, hilly regions are seeing the onset of snowfall. Cities from Delhi-NCR to Jammu & Kashmir are shivering under severe cold, and dense fog is affecting visibility in several urban areas during mornings and evenings. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for heavy rainfall in five states.

Heavy Rain Alert in Five States

The IMD has warned of moderate to heavy rainfall in Jammu & Kashmir, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Thunderstorms with lightning are expected at several places. In the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, winds are predicted to blow at 30-40 km/h from late night on December 17 through December 18.

Dense Fog Warning in 18 Cities

Dense fog is forecasted in several cities:

  • Bihar: Patna, Bhagalpur, Purnia, Gaya, Jehanabad, Darbhanga
  • Uttar Pradesh: Prayagraj, Kanpur, Lucknow, Etawah, Barabanki, Saharanpur
  • Himachal Pradesh: Shimla, Manali
  • Haryana: Gurugram

Delhi Weather Update

Delhi continues to experience severe cold and hazardous air pollution levels. The maximum temperature is expected at 25°C and the minimum at 8°C. Winds will blow at 10-15 km/h in the morning.

Uttar Pradesh Weather Update

Western and eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh will remain dry on December 17, but dense to very dense fog is expected in several districts, including Deoria, Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Basti, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Siddharthnagar, and Gonda. Night-time cold is intensifying across the state.

Bihar Weather Update

Patna, along with Gaya, East Champaran, West Champaran, Buxar, Bhojpur, Purnia, Katihar, Araria, and Kishanganj, will experience dense fog, while Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, and Gopalganj are under a cold wave alert.

Rajasthan Weather Update

Most parts of Rajasthan will have normal minimum temperatures, with light to moderate fog expected in the eastern and western regions.

Citizens are advised to exercise caution while driving in foggy areas, stay updated on weather alerts, and take necessary precautions against cold and rain.
