New Delhi: Amidst reports of violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat made a significant statement regarding India’s identity. He asserted that India is a Hindu nation and that there is no need for constitutional proof to establish this, as it is an undeniable reality.
Bhagwat emphasized that the concept of a Hindu nation is ancient. “The sun rises in the east, but no one knows since when. Do we need the Constitution’s approval for that? Hindustan is a Hindu nation. As long as there is a single person who considers India their motherland, respects Indian culture, and cherishes the pride of Indian ancestors, India will remain a Hindu nation,” he said.
He added that although the word “Hindu” is not explicitly mentioned in the Preamble of the Constitution, principles like justice, liberty, and equality are derived from it. Bhagwat stated that if Parliament decides to include the term “Hindu Nation,” it can be done, but even if it is not included, it does not change the truth. “We are Hindus, and this nation is ours. This truth will not change, whether it is written or not,” he said.
Organizing the Hindu Society is Essential
Bhagwat stressed the importance of organizing Hindu society. “If it happens by tomorrow morning, it will be done by tomorrow morning. If not, we will continue until the task is completed. Obstacles will arise, but we run the RSS to achieve this goal. Our birth is for the growth of the RSS, and if not completed in this life, the task will continue in the next,” he said.
On BJP-RSS Relations
Responding to questions about distances between the BJP and RSS, Bhagwat clarified, “This does not make sense to me. We have always maintained distance from the top leadership of BJP, even since the days of Jan Sangh. However, BJP leaders like Narendra Modi and Amit Shah are our volunteers. They remain close to us, but this is not political. Media reports on distances or closeness are often exaggerated. The truth is different.”
