Hema Malini Holds Gita Recital and Bhajans at Home; Sunita Ahuja Shares the Emotional Atmosphere: “The Family Is Broken

Days after the passing of legendary actor Dharmendra, his wife Hema Malini organised a prayer gathering at her residence. Actor Govinda’s wife, Sunita Ahuja, who attended the ceremony, opened up about the atmosphere inside the house, her bond with Esha Deol, and the deep impact Dharmendra’s death has had on her. Sunita also called Dharmendra her “childhood crush.”

A Spiritual Evening at Hema Malini’s Residence

Sunita Ahuja remembered Dharmendra as “India’s true He-Man,” a charismatic and large-hearted personality. She attended the prayer meet arranged by Hema Malini and shared how overwhelming the moment was for everyone present.

Speaking about the bhajan evening, Sunita said:

“Hema ji had organised a Bhagavad Gita recital along with devotional songs. We all sat together and listened to the bhajans. I couldn’t stop crying in front of Hema ji.”

When asked how she was dealing with the loss, Sunita responded:

“What can I even say… this is an immense loss. He was such a great man. I couldn’t stop crying. He was my childhood crush. I have so much respect for him and his family. I am truly shattered.”

A Cherished Memory With Dharmendra

Recalling a warm moment, Sunita shared:

“I once performed with Dharam ji on ‘Chhalke Jam’ on Sony TV. Sharing the stage with him was incredibly special. My family deeply respects him. I am very close to Esha Deol… they are like family to us.”

She added humorously:

“Honestly, I married Govinda because I felt he looked a bit like Dharmendra! But nobody is as handsome as Dharam ji. He was the most handsome man in the industry — a true He-Man who kept working till the very end.”

Meeting Dharmendra During Ganesh Chaturthi

Sunita also recalled meeting Dharmendra just two months ago:

“I met him during Ganpati celebrations. I went with my son Yashvardhan after Esha invited us. When Yash was born, I always wished he would have the qualities and charm of Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra.”

Govinda Visited the Deol Family to Pay Respects

She also mentioned that Govinda personally met Sunny and Bobby Deol after Dharmendra’s passing.

“Govinda went to express condolences to the Deol family. I couldn’t go at that time because I was not in Mumbai. When I returned, I got to know about the prayer meet at Hema ji’s home, so I went there on Thursday.”

Sunita added that she missed the prayer gathering held earlier at Taj Lands End, organised by the Deol family.
